Korn: What Was Dave Grohl Doing in the Studio With Us During New Album Recording
The boys from Korn recently revealed that Dave Grohl dropped by the studio during the recording process of their upcoming album "The Serenity of Suffering," due out on October 21.
And now, drummer Ray Luzier told Billboard what exactly the Foo Fighters frontman was doing there.
He said: "Well [Grohl] and [producer] Nick [Raskulinecz] - Nick helped build 606 Studios in the valley. Him and Grohl go way back.
"Everyone knows Nick worked at Sound City forever, so when they salvaged that board and everything and took it to Grohl's place, it was a huge thing in the business. I did my first record in the '90s at Sound City and just all those legendary records done there so, they go way back.
"So Dave had really jacked his leg, everybody knows he had the famous throne made for him and everything.
"And we're literally talking about arrangements in LA and Nick's all, 'Ray, I want you to try this other drumbeat and try this other thing, and oh by the way Grohl might stop by, but hey Munky...' And we're like, 'Wait, did you just say Grohl might stop by?' And he's like, 'Yeah he's on his way, they're gonna fly and do some makeup dates.'
"And sure enough, we're in the middle of a take and the door pops open and he's standing there with his cane saying how much he's been watching us on YouTube and checking out the live shows. He's just a great guy, I really look up to that dude."
Asked if Dave was involved with the album in any way, Ray replied: "He just stopped by as a bro, as a fellow dude and we were just both saying how much we respect each other's music and what we've done. I mean c'mon, he was in a little band called Nirvana and he went on and started the Foos and its just still gigantic."
