I don't know about Download but I heard that Tool's 2019 RAR/RIP announcement didn't move enough tickets to match the cost of booking them or at least not as much as they had hoped. Keep in mind that RAR has a different target audience than most metal-festivals. They sell many tickets with German headliners like Die Ärzte and other cheaper acts whereas the average Tool fan isn't really all that interested in the festival and would rather see them someplace else.Maar in een jaar waar er een "headlinerdroogte" is op de hardere festivals, verwacht je toch dat Download en RAR/RIP (die vorig jaar Metallica en Foo Fighters exclusief boekten) met geld smijten naar Tool om die op hun affiche te zetten. Waarom die festivals niet en GMM/Copenhell wel?
I found it hard to believe but apparently the cost-benefit-ratio is off, plain and simple.
Obviously, it's a different story for metal festivals like Hellfest or Graspop.
