En als je alles nog eens terug leest kan het eigenlijk bijna niet anders……..
Oei, nu al de 2023 tour cancelen, zal toch iets serieus aan de hand zijn. Als ik het statement zo lees, zie ik ze heel volgend jaar niet meer touren.
Hopen dat hij ooit weer in staat is om te lopen…

Bassist Tim Commerford van Rage Against The Machine heeft prostaatkanker. Dat heeft hij verteld aan muziekwebsite SPIN. Zijn prostaat is inmiddels verwijderd. Commerford kreeg de diagnose vlak voordat hij met de band op tournee zou gaan.Al eerder bleek dat er iets mis was. ,,Ik wilde een verzekering afsluiten”, vertelt de 54-jarige bassist. Bij een gezondheidscheck bleek zijn PSA-waarde echter verhoogd te zijn. ,,Ik kreeg geen verzekering.”
Commerford hield anderhalf jaar zijn PSA-waarde in de gaten. ,,Die steeg steeds een klein beetje”, kijkt hij terug. ,,Uiteindelijk deden ze een biopsie en ontdekten dat ik kanker had, dus haalden ze mijn prostaat eruit.” Achteraf baalt de muzikant ervan dat hij de symptomen niet serieus genoeg heeft genomen. Hij dacht dat het allemaal niet zo erg was.
Spannende tijd
Hij wordt nu om de zes maanden onderzocht. De laatste uitslag was goed. Volgens Commerford is het een spannende tijd voor hem, maar heeft hij veel steun van zijn partner. ,,Het wordt een lange reis, hoop ik”, zegt hij over het restant van zijn leven. ,,Mijn vader stierf rond zijn zeventigste aan kanker en mijn moeder stierf aan kanker toen ze veertig was.”Commerford denkt zelf nog minstens tien jaar te kunnen leven. In de tijd die hij nog heeft hoopt hij honderd songs te kunnen schrijven

Zack de la Rocha joined Run the Jewels on stage Thursday night to perform his guest spot on their track, “Close Your Eyes (And Count To Fuck),” marking his first public performance since Rage Against the Machine cancelled their 2023 tour last year. Watch a video of the moment below.
De la Rocha has been out of the spotlight (literally) since Rage Against the Machine wrapped their 2022 tour, during which he injured his leg during a concert in July 2022. In August 2022, photographer and de la Rocha’s friend, Glen E. Friedman, revealed that he had torn his Achilles, which de la Rocha confirmed himself a few months later, when the band announced that they would cancel their 2023 tour so he could focus on healing-up.
“Unfortunately it is a moment that requires a lot of work and healing,” de la Rocha wrote at the time. “I have a severe tear in my left Achilles tendon and only 8% of my tendon was left intact. And even that portion was severely compromised.”
Now, though, it appears that de la Rocha is on the mend. With no introduction, he stepped out onstage with Run the Jewels on Thursday night, right as his verse on “Close Your Eyes (And Count To Fuck)” began, surprising the crowd and elevating the energy. Watch the video below.
Meanwhile, Rage Against the Machine has yet to announce any new tour dates, but have at least been enjoying some due recognition recently. This past May, it was announced that the band is among the Class of 2023 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, for which they thanked “all of the passionate fans, the many talented co-conspirators we’ve worked with, and all the activists, organizers, rebels, and revolutionaries past, present, and future who have inspired our art.” The induction ceremony will take place November 3rd and air live on Disney+.
Last month, pop star Olivia Rodrigo named Rage Against the Machine as her favorite band at the moment, explaining that she’s been listening to them “over and over again on my way to and from the studio.”
