Een zondag met Deep Purple, FNM/Nightwish en The Offspring als publiekstrekkers zie ik niet uitverkopen. Niet vlot, ook niet met veel moeite.
Het is geen kwestie van ‘dealen’, of van naïef optimisme.
Niet dat ik perse klakkeloos geloof wat al die orakels beweren, maar er is toch meerdere keren door verschillende mensen ‘bevestigd’ dat GMM aan het onderhandelen is met in ieder geval één grote naam. Of die onderhandelingen daadwerkelijk slagen, is een ander verhaal, maar er is dus wel degelijk aanleiding om aan te nemen dat een grote headliner tot de mogelijkheden behoort.
Ook de aankondigingen laten geen twijfel over wie wel en wie niet headliner is, dus ‘doorschuiven’ van bands naar de headlinerpositie is geheel voorbarig en ongegrond.
Aan de andere kant acht men bands als SOAD en (in mindere mate) Volbeat nog steeds geloofwaardiger, terwijl die juist intussen vrijwel uitgesloten lijken om logistieke redenen.
Nightwish en Faith No More zijn inderdaad waarschijnlijk, Volbeat is dat niet (meer).
Faith No More verwacht ik als headliner op zondag (boven Deep Purple).
Nightwish verwacht ik als subheadliner op de donderdag (onder Iron Maiden) óf vrijdag.
Een grote headliner op vrijdag is nog steeds aannemelijk.[/quote]
Men roept Aerosmith, Slipknot en Motley Crue...dat is niet bepaald geloofwaardig..mede doordat ze geen enkel ander festival bevestigd hebben.

No Metallica for Graspop.
Metallica will happen, some day. Herman will fix that before Metallica announces their retirement. But not this year.
Just to make some things clear. Graspop is a live nation festival. The biggest bands are booked by Herman and his crew. Sometimes you have a band that’s possible on both festivals. Like Tool. But after years of lobbying and hard work, it’s obvious that they wanted Tool back in Werchter. In the Future they will play Graspop, they were an option for this year, but they will focus on the arena tour.
A perfect circle was not touring in 2018 in the Werchter weekend. Do the math..
A big band that is worth the delay ...
The big band (reason of the delay), earlier mentioned, is not in the announcement. Hopefully they follow one of the next weeks.
No RATM for GMM normally. But bigger size than the usual headliners.

Sunday they have 4 potential ms2 headliners: deftones, disturbed, the offspring and deep purple.
I expect a smaller, cheaper, headliner this day. Nightwish is a realistic option.
On Friday they have room for a very big name.
Bob Schoenmaekers, the man who is coordinating the program of Graspop, said in multiple interviews that one of his dreams was booking Motley Crue. In 2009 it happened, but they were not professional (Vince Neill arrived drunk), really crashed the backstage (old school), had problems with Graspop crew... and their show was not that good.
Never again he said.
No Volbeat for Graspop normally. I’ve expected them there but their agent wants to do something else next summer.
It looks like SOAD is the sunday headliner of Hellfest.
And if so, no SOAD for GMM.
SOAD will only play as a MS1 headliner/closing act on Graspop. Werchter is something else, bigger festival, more visitors...
You can not compare these two.
On Sunday they will have a strong line up with a lot of big acts, and a smaller headliner. Faith No More is perfect. On Saturday you will have the same situation. They will ad some strong names there. On friday you have normally the big headliner. That was the situation more than a week ago.
Why no SOAD on Graspop. A combination of some things. Better offer from other festivals the same weekend? A little bit too expensive (because they already have Maiden and the unknown big name)? They choose to play Werchter, because they loved it in 2017? Herman was happy about 2017 and wanted them back? No idea...
You think [RATM] might still play some shows in Europe over the summer? Yeah, there is something going on. But that is with so many artists, and sometimes something is very close (Coldplay) and finally doesn't happen anyway. Vampire Weekend on Rock Werchter last year for example. Or Roger Waters on TW Classic some years ago (divorce issues).
SOAD and Judas Priest play together on sunday, so I still hope they do the same at Graspop on saturday... No

Waarom niet? Het is pas begin december, er kunnen nog genoeg bands een tour aankondigen.
Deze 3 namen zijn inderdaad niet de meest aannemelijke (wat ook vrijwel iedere keer erbij wordt vermeld), om uiteenlopende redenen, maar kanshebbers zijn ze wel degelijk.
Deze namen volgen gewoon uit een collectieve 'brainstormsessie', en daarvoor gelden bepaalde regels:
Stel je oordeel uit – alle ideeën zijn goed, worden aanvaard en opgeschreven.
Focus op kwantiteit – streef naar zoveel mogelijk ideeën.
Freewheel – spring gerust van het ene idee op het andere.
Hitch-hike – lift mee op andermans ideeën.
Dat risico is zeker aanwezig, ja.
Maar ik kan me toch goed voorstellen dat ze het graag proberen.
Hopelijk hebben ze echter wel nog een plan B (en C?) achter de hand..
Wat Slipknot betreft, klopt het bovenstaande argument dat ze nog geen ander festival bevestigd hebben niet helemaal. Slipknot is al aangekondigd als hoofdact van Wacken Open Air en een Spaans festival, beide in de eerste helft van augustus 2020. Gezien die data en het feit dat ze dit jaar reeds op Graspop stonden, lijkt een optreden op de Lokerse Feesten, misschien Alcatraz (al lijkt Slipknot me daar te duur voor) of zelfs Pukkelpop me iets waarschijnlijker dan een snelle terugkeer naar Graspop, aangezien er tussen eind juni en begin augustus een flink gat zit (voor een Amerikaanse band). Maar in tegenstelling tot bij Aerosmith en Mötley Crüe is dus al wel zeker dat Slipknot in de zomer van 2020 wat Europese festivalshows zal doen en daar zou zomaar een Belgische datum bij kunnen komen.
Toch denk ik dat het geweldig goed tot zijn recht zou komen op die festivals. Maar vrees dat ze het niet aandurven.
