Mijn eerste gedachte was "Toch Glastonbury??" maar dat kunnen we denk ik wel afstrepen...
Zal wel uitdraaien op randprojecten.
Wat mij betreft kondigen ze nu definitief een lange pauze in, zodat er ruimte is voor een Them Crooked Vultures comeback

Dit is 'm dan, de beruchte tweet. Vanavond laat of morgenochtend vroeg komt er een 'official band announcement' waarvoor we tuned moeten stayen. Ja doei, als het over de Foo Fighters gaat hebben we geen tijd om hier lekker rustig op te wachten. Wát is er aan de hand?! We hebben vijf mogelijke aankondigingen op een rijtje gezet.
1. Een nieuwe release
De release van Saint Cecilia, de meest recente EP van de Foos, ging gepaard met een tease die ongeveer een maand duurde. Aangepaste websites, countdown-klokken, mysterieuze aanwijzingen... Het hield niet op. Ze pakken het deze keer sowieso iets directer aan met een tweetje. Maar wat zou dat betekenen? EP'tje? LP'tje? Extra tourdata? Wie weet...
2. Dave gaat solo
Dat kan ook nog, natuurlijk. Hij heeft door de jaren heen al aan veel andere projecten, samenwerkingen en releases meegewerkt. Negen van de tien keer pakte dat erg goed uit, want meneer Grohl kan nu eenmaal alles. Of misschien vindt hij het na 22 jaar goed geweest en gaat 'ie achter de geraniums zitten, terwijl de rest van de Foos nog even verder fight.
3. De hele band kapt ermee
Worst case scenario. Hier gaan we nog even niet aan denken. Het. Mag. Niet.
Nee.
4. Ze gaan hun naam eindelijk eens in de praktijk brengen
FOOD FIGHT! Misschien met die 1000 man die toen in het Italiaanse Cesena 'Learn To Fly' leerden spelen. En die halen ze allemaal dan naar Pinkpop, om dat gecancelde optreden van vorig jaar in te halen in an epic way. #dreambig
5. He-le-maal niks
Er gebeurt niks. Je kent Dave toch, die houdt wel van een geintje. Ga gewoon rustig slapen en lees straks dat ze nieuwe merchandise hebben. Een videogame. Een hondenkledinglijn. Ofzo.

Zie liever nieuwe initiatieven van hem dan Grohl te zien aanschuiven bij een andere band. Wil eigenlijk vooral wel weer eens verrast worden door Grohl. Compleet buiten de kaders van bestaande bands als FF en QOTSA.
Ze hebben net ook op hun Instagram het bericht 'Official band announcement tonight. Stay tuned.' geplaatst. Zal de zwarte foto iets slechts betekenen...?

Met Grohl op drums waren ze op hun sterkst. Ook de nummers waaraan Grohl meewerkte op de nieuwste plaat horen bij de betere van die plaat. Maar vooral live zou hij ook een enorme meerwaarde zijn, geen enkele andere QOTSA-drummer kon die nummers van Songs For The Deaf echt strak strak spelen.
In ieder geval moet hij maar weer eens iets gaan doen als drummer. Als zanger en songwriter vind ik hem eerder matig, maar hij is zonder twijfel een van de beste rockdrummers van zijn generatie (al dan niet de beste). Them Crooked Vultures zie ik niet gebeuren, omdat er dan weer 6-7 jaar tussen de laatste 2 QOTSA-platen gaan zitten.
Taylor Hawkins bevestigt dat het om een 'indefinite hiatus' gaat. Laatste keer dat ze dat zeiden hebben ze ook 3 jaar niet getourd. Zegt er wel bij dat er geen ruzie in betrokken is, maar dat ze even iets anders moeten doen na sinds 2011 continu met Foo Fighters bezig te zijn.
Ja, typisch Foo Fighters.
Ze nemen alleen even pauze, zoals al eerder bekend werd door uitspraken tijdens de tour, het niet inhalen van concerten in 2016 etc.
Nu is ook een interview van januari 2016 gepubliceerd
“We’re on ihateus right now, we’re on an indefinite ihateus,” Hawkins explained. Tussen de Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace Tour en de Wasting Light tour zonder optredens (Tussentijds alleen MTV EMA en wat TV shows gedaan). Het kan dus wel even duren, maar ik verwacht in de loop van 2017 wel weer wat. In 2009 kregen we nog het Greatest Hits album tijdens de break. Nu hebben we Saint Ceciclia al gekregen....

Foo Fighters sue UK insurance companies over cancelled European shows
Foo Fighters have launched a court case against a number of insurance companies saying they haven't paid out for seven cancelled gigs.
The US lawsuit mentions three cancelled performances after Dave Grohl broke his leg in June 2015 and four after the Paris terror attacks in November.
The band say there are injury and terrorism clauses in their policies which mean they should be compensated.
They are claiming against underwriters Lloyd's of London as well.
Foo Fighters are also taking action against the insurance broker responsible for securing the policies, Robertson Taylor, which was bought by US firm Integro in December.
Newsbeat has contacted Lloyd's of London and Robertson Taylor for comment.
Foo Fighters say the insurers have wrongfully refused to pay their terrorism cover claims for losses from the cancellation of several shows in Europe during their 2015 world tour in November.
The court case, filed on Monday in a federal court in Los Angeles, claims they're owed for shows they called off in Turin, Paris, Lyon and Barcelona after the Paris terror attacks, which saw 130 people killed.
The band say the companies have "failed to pay amounts that even they appear to recognise are due and owing" on insurance claims the band made on several shows which were cancelled.
The Foos say the website, www.foofighterstours2015.com, had been hacked the day after the attacks to display an IS flag, automatic weapon and the threat, "be prepared".
The band says in its lawsuit that it believes it'll be paid for the Paris and Lyon cancellations but alleges that Robertson Taylor advised underwriters against paying for cancelled shows in Italy and Spain despite IS releasing a video threatening additional attacks in Europe.
The second part of the case is about gigs cancelled after Dave Grohl broke his leg during a show in Gothenburg, Sweden, last June.
The frontman finished the gig before heading to hospital to be treated.
The injury meant seven shows were cancelled, three of which - two at London's Wembley Stadium and one at Edinburgh's BT Murrayfield Stadium - are being contested in the band's legal complaint.
The band also had to pull out of their headline slot at last year's Glastonbury festival. Florence and the Machine performed instead.
After treatment, Dave Grohl went on to perform 53 shows using crutches and a specially-designed throne.
Foo Fighters are claiming for damages, punitive damages to cover Lloyd's of London and Robertson Taylor's conduct plus lawyers' fees.

7 unreleased Nirvana recordings from 1993 have leaked on a private Nirvana forum, including two never before heard songs. The songs leaked after a fan bought the original reel on eBay, and Alternative Nation has exclusive details on the tracks. The Pachyderm Sessions recordings are dated February 15, 1993, and the real jewels of the leaks are the two unreleased instrumentals.
“Lullaby” sounds like something you might hear in a SciFi alien movie. It’s driven by drum, bass, and a bizarre keyboard lead that sounds like demonic Doors. There’s a brief drum solo at the end, the song sounds like a total joke, and some fans are speculating that Kurt Cobain might be playing drums. “Lullaby” clocks in at 3:35.
An untitled track featuring Dave Grohl playing all instruments is the other unreleased song, with a woman at the beginning saying: “The one I didn’t play him.” It opens with a blistering AC/DCesque guitar riff played at punk rock speed with frantic drumming. There are shades of Foo Fighters in the song, with heavy plodding riffs dropping in and out over the jangly lead riff. While it is just an instrumental, it sounds like it could have been a radio friendly sister song to “Scentless Apprentice” had Kurt Cobain decided to write lyrics and a melody over Grohl’s music. The track clocks in at 1:52.
Also included on the leak are alternate versions of “Marigold” and “Dumb.” One of the versions of “Marigold” just features the bass and drum tracks, another is an alternate instrumental take that doesn’t sound significantly different from the studio version. “Marigold” with cello performed by Kera Schaley sounds different, with different harmonization mixed in, and the cello giving the song an even more ominous feel.

Dave Grohl is working on a project with legendary producer Butch Vig.
Vig, the man responsible for producing Nirvana's seminal Nevermind album and the Foo Fighters' albums Wasting Light and Sonic Highways, confirmed the pair have been working on something together, although he wouldn't reveal if it was for a new Foo Fighters album or a Dave Grohl solo project.
Vig is also the drummer and co-producer of the post-grunge band Garbage and revealed the collusion with Grohl was happening alongside several other projects he has on the go.
"I'm working on a bunch of things. Some new Garbage music, a collaboration with Dave Grohl," Vig told AAP.
Grohl and Vig have a long working relationship dating back to the early 1990s when Grohl was the drummer with Nirvana and up to their recent work on the Foo Fighters' records.
Speculation has been mounting that Vig has been working with Grohl on another Foos album.
In March, Vig told The Daily Beast that he had met with Grohl who had been writing some songs.
Vig also appeared in a spoof video made by the Foo Fighters in March in which the band responded to rumours that their frontman was about to release a solo album.
The video dispelled the rumours with a statement at the end that included: "For the millionth time, we're not breaking up."
Even Vig thought Grohl was working on an album at the time.
"He (Grohl) called me just a couple of hours before and said `Dude I'm going to make a solo record, come record me'," Vig said.
"Obviously I realised right away when I got there that it was going to be kind of funny and crazy but that's one of the things I like about working with Dave, there's this great energy but there's a sense of humour and he takes everything very seriously but he doesn't take it too serious. He likes to have fun," he said.
"That energy spills out to everyone he works with, it really does. It's very infectious."
The Foo Fighters released an EP, St Cecilia, in 2015 and their last album, Sonic Highways, was released the year previously.
The ambitious album preceded an eight-part docuseries in which Grohl delved into the history of music with interviews in eight different US cities.
Vig has previously stated that Grohl was keen to make another Sonic Highways, which points to the possibility that the pair are working on the next Foos album.
"I love working with him because he has this crazy energy and it's good because I think that we respond to working with each other, and we have a bunch of new things we're working on at the moment that are really pretty exciting," he told AAP.
Butch Vig will be touring Australia with Garbage for an east coast tour and the A Day on the Green concert series from November.

If you were an angsty ‘90s kid whose listening preferences fell under the blanket genre “hard rock,” the forthcoming album from nu metal legends Korn, The Serenity of Suffering, is shaping up to be quite the nostalgia trip for you.
Slipknot frontman and noted cell-phone slapper Corey Taylor will guest on the album, and he may not be the only prolific rocker to do so.
At least, that’s what Korn drummer Ray Luzier’s Instagram would have us believe. As Music Feeds notes, Luzier recently posted a photo of Dave Grohl hanging out with the band during a studio session for the new album.
In the post, Luzier also calls out producer Nick Raskulinecz, whose past work with Grohl’s Foo Fighters includes 2002’s One by One and 2005’s double album In Your Honor.
