Exclusive: Guns N’ Roses tour to expand beyond North America, the Cult to open select dates

This morning Vanyaland sat down with Billy Duffy of The Cult for an interview ahead of their show Tuesday night at the Citi Shubert Theatre in Boston (look for it on Monday), and when we asked him his opinion on the Guns N” Roses’ ongoing reunion saga, Duffy dropped a bit of news — The Cult will be touring with Axl, Slash, and Duff in the coming months.

And while Duffy didn’t elaborate, he did say the dates wouldn’t be taking place in America.

“I believe we will be playing with them at a couple of shows that are not in the United States — I think I can say that — I believe,” Duffy said. “I just found out.”

It’s the first time someone has gone on record confirming Guns will be playing shows beyond the North American cities which they announced last week that will take place this summer, and the handful of warm-up dates around their Coachella appearances. Chances are, the gigs will take place either in Europe or South America, the latter of which has always been an incredibly strong region for GNR.

In related news, speculation is high that there will be a secret Guns show tomorrow night somewhere in their hometown of Los Angeles. Blabbermouth reported on the rumor last night, and the article was retweeted by the Whisky a Go-Go. The legendary West Hollywood nightclub also recently added an event by Guns N’ Roses tribute band Hollywood Roses — set to take place tomorrow evening.

Fans desperately looking for a shred of evidence about the reunion have also been poring over an image tweeted by Guns of three sets of Ahead drumsticks, the brand of which former drummer Matt Sorum used during the Use Your Illusion tour, but said he doesn’t any longer. Most recent GNR stick-man Frank Ferrer indicated in the comments section of the image on the outfit’s official Instagram page that it’s a brand he doesn’t use either, saying he uses Vater. Signs obviously point to original drummer Steven Adler being back in the fold to some degree, bolstered by the last-minute cancellation of his show set to take place tomorrow night at …the Whisky a Go-Go.

LOS ANGELES - Guns N' Roses gaan dit jaar op tournee door Noord-Amerika. De Not In This Lifetime Tour begint op 23 juni in Detroit en omvat twintig concerten in Amerikaanse en Canadese stadions. De tournee eindigt op 22 augustus in San Diego, maakte de band vrijdag bekend.

Zanger Axl Rose, gitarist Slash en bassist Duff McKagan van de Amerikaanse rockband hebben ruim twee decennia lang niet meer samen op het podium gestaan. Guns N' Roses is later deze maand ook de hoofdact op het festival Coachella en heeft optredens in Las Vegas en Mexico-Stad.

Guns N' Roses verzorgt vrijdagavond al een verrassingsoptreden in Los Angeles. Bezoekers kunnen voor de retroprijs van slechts tien dollar een polsbandje kopen om het reünieconcert in de nachtclub Troubadour bij te wonen. Dit leidde vrijdag meteen tot lange rijen voor de club waar de band vroeger in de beginjaren ook al optrad. De kaartverkoop van de tournee begint op 8 april.

Skrillex Opening for Guns N' Roses

Skrillex has been announced as an opener for one of the dates on Guns N' Roses' massive Not in This Lifetime reunion tour. The producer/DJ will join Axl and co. at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas on August 5, as confirmed by the below Guns N' Roses tweet. Currently, the Houston show is the only one Skrillex is opening. AC/DC have announced their final run of tour dates with Axl Rose. The rescheduled dates follow the U.S. shows' cancellation earlier this year, when Brian Johnson dropped out due to hearing problems. Check out the full list of dates here.

A Special Guest Could Be Performing With Guns N’ Roses

AC/DC stage gear has been spotted on stage at Ford Field in Detroit, where Guns N’ Roses are kicking off their ‘Not In This Lifetime’ tour tonight. While it could be Axl Rose using gear from his other band, AC/DC guitarist Angus Young did perform as a guest with GNR at Coachella in April.

Expect Guns N’ Roses to hit the stage between 9:45-10 p.m., says production manager Dale “Opie” Skjerseth, who spoke to members of the media at Ford Field on Wednesday.

That’s despite Axl Rose’s history of on stage tardiness, which has long been part of his mystique. In Las Vegas, where the group played two shows in April, GNR hit the stage just before midnight on the first night and around 10:30 p.m. the second night.

Skjerseth said Rose is up and moving after breaking his left foot at GNR’s first performance back at Los Angeles’ Troubadour on April 1 and is ready to go for Thursday’s concert.

The group members — including Rose, guitarist Slash and bassist Duff McKagen — arrived in Detroit at various times over the last several days, and performed a three and a half hour soundcheck on Tuesday night at Ford Field. The group will perform another soundcheck Wednesday night.

“They’ve been rehearsing every song they know,” said Skjerseth, who said the concert will likely be between two-and-a-half to nearly three hours. “They’re ready to do anything.”

Expect upwards of 25 songs in the setlist, pulling mainly from the group’s “Appetite for Destruction” and “Use Your Illusion” albums.

The early shows featured flashy pyrotechnics and dancing go-go girls but minimal stage banter, according to reports.

“Every bell and whistle you can think of with Guns N’ Roses will be here,” Skjerseth said.

Guns N’ Roses’ stage was erected at Ford Field after the tear down of Beyoncé’s stage following her June 14 concert at the Detroit Lions’ home. A crew of 125 people loaded out 20 production trucks and 16 steel trucks over three 12 hour shifts, and will break down the stage and production in less than 24 hours following Thursday’s concert.

The ability to rehearse at the venue is one of the reasons Ford Field was chosen as the tour’s kickoff, Skjerseth said.

Kasabian, Radiohead and The Stone Roses other contenders for Pyramid Stage

Guns N’ Roses have been named the early bookmakers’ favourites to headline Glastonbury next year.

The band have yet to announce any UK shows on their reunion tour since Axl Rose and Slash got back together after 21 years for their current US concerts. But Rose recently said that the band hoped to announce British concerts soon. They have odds of just 8/11 to play at Worthy Farm for the first time.

Kasabian, who headlined in 2014 and who release their new album in autumn, are second-favourites at 5/4 to headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday-Sunday with bookmakers William Hill, followed by Radiohead and The Stone Roses at 2/1.


Foo Fighters are also among the favourites at 3/1. They had to cancel in 2015 when Dave Grohl broke his leg, and are believed by the bookies to be likely to return in 2017 to actually headline, after Florence And The Machine replaced them in 2015.

Michael Eavis said last November that he had all three headliners for 2017 in place. William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly said: “After yet another successful Glastonbury, all thoughts will already be turning towards 2017’s festival. It looks likely that a couple of recently reformed bands – Guns N’ Roses and The Stone Roses – may be headlining the Pyramid Stage next summer.”

Huge News On Guns N’ Roses’ 2017 Plans: ‘We All Want Money’

Guns N’ Roses production magager Dale “Opie” Skjerseth says that “there’s no end date” to the band’s ‘Not In This Lifetime’ reunion tour, with “plenty” of shows already booked for “far into next year.”

Opie told 11Alive WXIA-TV and other outlets that the band are “getting along just fine” and has shot down speculation that the fact that they have separate dressing rooms means there is tension within the ranks, Skjerseth said: “Just because everybody’s older, they carry their families with them. They all have to have their space.”

“Everybody meets before we go on stage. It’s a meeting point and that’s where the chemistry happens.”

“I believe it starts with the love the band… And then of course — we all want money.”

“I’ve been told there’s no end date, and I’ve seen plenty of dates going into next year, far into next year. Everybody’s working together to keep a common goal and common direction: keep the machine going.”

“We were all young,” Skjerseth said of Rose’s behavior on previous tours. “Even I was young. It’s his maturity and business and how it should be. Everybody feels good about it. He’s here before the guys, the rest of them, some days. He comes in, he shows up, gets out of the car, goes on stage. Sometimes he stays on site.”

Denk dat Roskilde ook nog bij de tour gevoegd moet worden na de tweets van Roskilde maanden terug dat GnR niet relevant was voor 2016.
De organisatie van Roskilde laat via Twitter weten dat Guns N’ Roses niet naar het Deense festival zal komen dit jaar. Dat terwijl de band eindelijk op lang verwachte reünie-tournee gaat.
