We Are Electric Outdoor is niet meer:
We Are Electric friends, fans and ravers,
After years of blood, sweat and tears, we have decided to stop our summer edition of We Are Electric: ‘Weekender’. We have worked very, very hard for it, but after some brilliant years, the end of an era is here.
It all started in 2015.. After two successful indoor editions, it was time to expand the brand. Our long-cherished wish -an outdoor We Are Electric edition in an idyllic place in the middle of nature with space for a luxury campsite-, became reality. We Are Electric Weekender was born. About 15.000 visitors and 6.000 campers danced till the early hours of the following day at We Are Electric Weekender 2015 with big names such as Paul Kalkbrenner and The Prodigy. The festival was sold out.
As the years went by, we continued growing. Also, the diversity of music styles and stage areas got bigger. We even moved with the outdoor festival to the beautiful place ‘Velder Woods’, Boxtel. During those years, Justice, The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Pendulum, Die Antwoord, Eric Prydz, Disclosure, Martin Garrix and Underworld performed on stage.
In 2019 we had a wonderful year. Perhaps the most beautiful year to date. However, we cannot deny that there were struggles along the way. In recent years, we have noticed that the artist pool has gotten small when it comes to electronic live music. That makes it difficult. Very difficult. From that beautiful pool, we have gone through almost all the names. And with that, the festival is saturated. Conversely, we saw visitor numbers grow slower than our ambitions, and that makes it unfeasible to make the festival profitable.
Mind you, that has not only been the case over the past year, this also counts for the past editions of We Are Electric Weekender.
We, as an organization and music lovers, have a vision for the future. And it’s big. Unfortunately, we have noticed that this vision for the future does not fit in with reality.
That’s why we want our summer weekender to stop at its peak. And we’re really sorry for that. But the alternative is giving you a festival that we don’t 100% support and we don’t want that. We’d rather think back to the brilliant years, which stand for the best electronic live acts, the coolest audience ever and the best ever shows.
We would like to thank you for the support, love, passion for music and especially togetherness.
You. Me. We Are Electric
