Breaking a lance for President: I think the King of Terrors ep is pretty good. I especially like Fearless and Name of the Father. But I also like Bring Me, Bad Omens and Sleep Token. Pretty similar boat.

No idea though how they're filling an hour or more. Not enough material

The more I think about it, the more I come to believe that the „industry plant“ allegations are a little off mark.

From what we know, this is actually the side project of Charlie from the band Busted. Therefore the connections that enabled President to play Download without having released music prior weren’t as inorganic as some claim. If, for example, Joakim Broden of Sabaton were to create a side project which gets a slot at Graspop before putting out the first project, we wouldn’t call it a plant, even though his track record with Sabaton and his industry connections probably got him there.

The only difference is that we couldn’t see how that Download gig came to be because of that anonymity gimmick.

Seems to me as if the hate is a little exaggerated. Just my two cents though.

Die verschenen ook op Graspop en Alcatraz, maar wel daar waar ze thuis hoorden: netjes om 12u. om een stage te openen met een setje van een half uur, want ze hadden nauwelijks muziek. Benieuwd hoe President een tent gaat headlinen met hun 20 minuten muziek.

Bloodywood mag mooi de Metaldome headlinen en President is ook welkom, ze mogen zelfs op de main stage spelen, op 't plekje van Ego Kill Talent.

Dat zal wel magisch voor jou worden, of niet? Geen idee hoe erg fan je bent van Anthrax, maar toch gewoon lekkere thrash metal en zeker in de Marquee met wel echt dedicated publiek.

Perhaps you’re right. However, it could also just be that President‘s music has way more mainstream appeal as their style‘s very much „the current thing“ and that’s what’s causing them to grow this quickly.

Their tour stops are selling out quickly and I just didn’t see this level of popularity with Vended for example.

To me, they didn’t need to headline the Metal Dome already but - just like Bad Omens - they are very popular right now and I don’t think that is worth a boycott.

Let’s be clear, I think there is some „propping up“ going on with President but I think they are far from the only artist for which this is the case. Business connections and monetary incentives are just a part of any industry and I think it’s a little naive to pretend as if President are such an outlier in this regard.

Ik kan niet onomstotelijk bewijzen dat hun muziek gecreëerd is door de industrie, of zelfs AI gegenereerd, wat ik inmiddels vermoed. Maar het is wel héél toevallig dat een Sleep Token kloon uit het niets opduikt en gigantisch wordt gehyped en gepusht in het jaar dat Sleep Token ontploft, vooral in de UK, en Download headliner is. Dan worden er ook nog allerlei geruchten de wereld in geslingerd dat het iets met Sleep Token te maken heeft. Tot op de dag van vandaag zijn de bandleden anoniem (trouwens ook al gejat van Sleep Token), wat natuurlijk makkelijk uit komt. En dan komt daar nu die belachelijke positie van Metal Dome headliner op Graspop bovenop. Het is een batterij aan 'toevalligheden'.

Different subject - have you seen the ticket availability for Twisted Sister’s show in Cologne? Doesn’t look like the tickets are selling all that well. I’m curious to see how fast tickets for that Volbeat/TS Friday are going.

No objections, they’re a Sleep Token clone for sure and yes, this might be an attempt to cash in on that trend.

Als ouwe thrash head inderdaad best wel fan van Anthrax. Denk dat de setting in de Marquee inderdaad vet gaat zijn. En het is sowieso veel te lang geleden dat ik ze gezien heb. En an Megadeth en LB er na. Gaat een mooie avond worden

Heeft nochtans de Masked Singer UK 2023 gewonnen met overtuigende covers van Snow Patrol, Kings of Leon & Lewis Capaldi, dat is een solide basis om een geloofwaardige metalband uit de grond te stampen

Het probleem voor mij is dat busted buiten de uk niet groot is. President is nu headliner van de metal Dome terwijl ik betwijfel als busted ooit die plek zou krijgen. En dan wordt het toch wel moeilijk om het te verantwoorden

Het probleem voor mij is dat busted buiten de uk niet groot is. President is nu headliner van de metal Dome terwijl ik betwijfel als busted ooit die plek zou krijgen. En dan wordt het toch wel moeilijk om het te verantwoorden

Zal vast een populair bandje zijn maar bijvoorbeeld Lorna Shore, STP en Sleep Token hadden ook alle drie een gigantische hype met zich mee en stonden niet zo hoog op de line up als President

O2 Forum has a capacity of ~2300 people for example and the tour sold out almost immediately.

But again, it’s two discussions:

1) Are they an industry plant?

2) Are they big enough for the Metal Dome headline slot?

My initial post was arguing against the former claim while I think the jury’s still out on the ladder.
