Of the metal festival circuit in August (I also go to Hellfest, in June), the only one that's ācloseā to Madrid is Leyendas del Rock, and the line-up doesn't compare to Alcatraz. Leyendas includes too much classic heavy metal or power metal, which doesn't appeal to me that much, and too many Spanish bands, whose level is not comparable to other places in Europe (or USA). Besides, the accommodation is expensive and bad, and the temperatures in the south-east of Spain make the festival itself very uncomfortable.
Besides, from Madrid the Leyendas is not close either.
My first Alcatraz was 2022, and I went because I thought it was a great line-up, combining different styles of metal from medium and big bands, made with very good taste.
This year I hesitated a lot to go to Brutal Assault, which I think is one of the few that can overshadow Alcatraz in August (Motocultor is growing a lot, too). But in the end I decided to repeat (I'm going with other Spanish friends), because the venue is very comfortable and accessible, and the accommodation from Kortrijk is also very comfortable.
