Update Het is na de Air Force One waarschijnlijk het bekendste vliegtuig ter wereld: de Ed Force One van hardrockband Iron Maiden. Maandagmiddag zette het gevaarte voet aan de grond in Amsterdam.

De Britse band staat woensdag 8 juni in het Gelredome en zoals altijd vliegt de band tijdens de huidige The Book of Souls World Tour met de eigen Boeing 747/400 van stad naar stad.

Na vertrek uit de Oostenrijkse hoofdstad Wenen landde het vliegtuig tegen half vier 's middags veilig op Schiphol. Daar blijft 'ie tot en met donderdag staan op het Romeo 72 Platform. Daar staat 'ie volgens een woordvoerder van Schiphol dichtbij een hek en is het op de hoek van de Toekanweg en Pelikaanweg goed foto's maken. Dichterbij het vliegtuig komen dan vanachter het hek een foto maken is echter niet mogelijk. Na donderdag vliegt Iron Maiden door naar Parijs.
Vliegende frontman
Doorgaans trekt een bezoek van het gigantische toestel een hoop bekijks. Op een speciale facebookpagina van de band kunnen fans en vliegtuigspotters hun foto's uploaden van het toestel. Achter de stuurknuppel zit meestal zanger Bruce Dickinson, die op zijn 57e dus niet alleen nog voorman van een wereldberoemde band is, maar ook piloot.
Iron Maiden gebruikte tijdens de Somewhere Back in the World-toer voor het eerst een eigen vliegtuig. Dat was toen nog een Boeing 757. 'Bescheiden' in vergelijking met de 747/400 die de band nu gebruikt, het derde toestel alweer. Het vluchtnummer is geheel in lijn met de muziek van Iron Maiden: 666, naar een van de bekendste nummers van de band.

Bij vrijwel elk nummer de handjes in de lucht. Zeker niet passief toekijken.
Enthousiast publiek met een band die met plezier speelt. Het was geloof ik hun 46e show in deze Tour, maar dat zag je er niet aan af.
Paar jaar terug op Fortarock vonden wij ze wat tegenvallen, maar dit was een goede show!

Bruce announced from the Download stage on June 13th that Iron Maiden would be touring the UK in 2017 and it looks as though an announcement is now possibly imminent.

Late last night (Wednesday 31st August 2016) a post appeared on the front page of the official Iron Maiden website, ironmaiden.com, stating "Maiden Announce 12 Date UK Tour In March 2017" but this was very rapidly removed, before we had a chance to view the content.

You can see the screenshot above and note two glaring typos on there, 100,00 instead of 100,000 and 31th instead of 31st. Not particularly significant for a "test post" but worth noting.

We speculated earlier in the year whether Maiden would play West Ham's Olympic Stadium after AC/DC triumphantly christened it this summer and that remains to be seen but one thing is for certain - Iron Maiden's gonna get ya, in the UK next year, and we can't wait!

IRON MAIDEN ANNOUNCE EXTENSIVE PLANS TO PROTECT THEIR FANS FROM TICKET PIRACY, PROFITEERING AND COUNTERFEITING

IRON MAIDEN, whose first major UK arena tour for six years will be announced on Friday Sept 23, have gone to great lengths to ensure their fans are able to buy tickets at the intended price rather than at the ludicrously inflated prices prevalent on many secondary ticketing sites and also to protect them against counterfeit tickets.

Maiden manager Rod Smallwood explains,

“We do not want our fans being ripped off either by counterfeit tickets or through costly mark-ups on so called secondary ticketing websites. These problems now affect the UK more than any other country outside of the U.S.A. We believe the most successful way to prevent this is by implementing Paperless ticketing. This proved highly successful in reducing piracy at our previous London shows in 2013 and on our North American tours since 2010. This is a simple procedure and goes a long way to minimising the resale of tickets and reducing fraud by requiring the original cardholder purchaser to be present at entry.

We have been working with our UK promoter Live Nation and Ticketmaster to ensure that we can operate a Paperless ticketing system, in full or in part, at all the UK venues we’ll play in 2017. We are also instigating a number of additional measures which we believe will directly help our fans to access tickets in the fairest, safest way and at the intended price.”

The actions being put in place for 2017 are:

Ensuring that every venue will operate Paperless ticketing, either 100% or partial.
Working in co-operation with Live Nation and Ticketmaster, Paperless ticketing means that the original cardholder is required to present their debit or credit card and photographic ID at the point of entry with their guest(s).
Setting Conditions of Purchase so that tickets are not for resale.
Ensuring to the best of our abilities, in conjunction with Live Nation and Ticketmaster, that secondary ticketing sites are prevented from listing our shows and to invalidate tickets should any appear on these secondary sites.
Setting a maximum limit of 4 (four) tickets per person per show.
To use Purchaser Names on tickets where they are not paperless and to require the cardholder to be present at the show, with picture ID.
A dedicated team to monitor ticket sales in real-time throughout the exclusive Iron Maiden Fan Club pre-sale , any other presales and the general public on sale to ensure that ticket limits are being imposed and all suspicious activity is reported and investigated.
A dedicated customer support team on hand to deal with any issues from fans with legitimate problems.
Being aware of criminals and their methods to infiltrate our best practices and having the conviction to retrospectively cancel their inventory. This is especially in respect of automated bots and multiple card efforts which are used to garner large numbers of tickets at the onsale to the detriment of the fans.
Reinforcing the message that if you buy a ticket from an unauthorised source, it will be either invalid or counterfeit. Do not become a victim.
IRON MAIDEN has long been active in combatting the abuse of secondary ticketing websites; specifically the individuals and businesses who use digital platforms to immediately snap up and re-sell tickets at vastly inflated prices, denying the genuine fan a fair chance to purchase at face-value. The band supports The Fanfair Alliance which unites music businesses, artists and fans against ticket touting and profiteering in the online secondary market.

Nigel Adams MP, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Music and Member of Parliament for Selby and Ainsty adds,

"I'm pleased that Iron Maiden are taking a principled position and standing up for music fans. I'd like to think the whole industry can learn from this initiative and use technology to put a stop to the industrial level of touting that has been a blight on the live music industry for so long."

IRON MAIDEN CONTINUE THE BOOK OF SOULS WORLD TOUR INTO 2017
Rock legends IRON MAIDEN continue their hugely successful The Book of Souls World Tour into 2017 with a series of European arena shows opening in Antwerp, Belgium on April 22, Maiden’s first visit to this city since 1981 on the Killers Tour! The band then travel to Germany for shows in Oberhausen, Frankfurt and Hamburg before heading into the UK and Ireland for an extensive series of concerts in May. There will be 8 dates across England in Nottingham, Manchester, Sheffield, Leeds, Newcastle, Liverpool, Birmingham and London, two in Scotland in Glasgow and Aberdeen and one in Cardiff, Wales.



Maiden founder member and bass player Steve Harris says,

“As it’s been so long since our last full UK arena tour, we really wanted to get to our fans in as many cities as possible. We’re really looking forward to it, especially visiting places we haven’t been to for a very long time like Leeds where we haven’t played since 2005 and Liverpool where we haven’t played since 1990. The whole band is really enjoying this tour and although we love playing festivals and stadiums, it is terrific to return to the intimacy and atmosphere of arenas. The songs from The Book Of Souls album and the new Maya-themed Eddies and stage sets have gone down really well and fan reaction has been amazing. And of course we know our fans appreciate us playing a lot of the older songs too, which we will continue to do.”
