Archive - Full Orchestral FM4 Radio Session (05/02/2026)

The London-based music collective Archive teamed up with radio FM4 and the prestigious ORF Radio-Symphonieorchester Wien, conducted by Gottfried Rabl, for a one-off FM4 Radio Session in the historic Großer Sendesaal at the ORF RadioKulturhaus in Vienna.

This is the full live recording of this memorable evening on February 5th 2026, featuring the world premiere of eight new tracks from their current album “Glass Minds” and some classics that have never been performed with an orchestra this size before.

Mijn eerste zoektocht daar (iets waar ik al 20(!) jaar naar zoek) is direct prijs

Dit vraagt wat uitleg:

Op een donkere avond, ergens ver weg in 2021, zappend tussen de toen nog relatief beperkte TV-kanalen, terecht gekomen bij een concertregistratie bij VPRO (programma Onrust) van een band waar ik (toen) nog nooit van gehoord had.
De oude VHS-recorder meteen op opname gezet want afgaande op de eerste zwarte noten van Black Mambo stond er iets te gebeuren, het was in mijn vage herinnering vrij laat en mogelijk haalde ik het einde niet, maar dit moest ik volledig ontdekken.

Ondanks tientallen VHS-banden heen- en weer gespoeld, nooit meer terug gevonden, internet was in dat tijdperk nog redelijk exclusief in de huiskamers en via de analoge modem op telefoonlijn.

Jaren later via het (of een) fan-forum van de band en ook op soulseek (wie ken dat nog) contact gekregen met één Nederlander die beweerde de enige, exclusieve opnames van die registratie gekregen te hebben van Jan Douwe Kroeske én niemand, echt niemand, zou dit ooit nog te horen of te zien krijgen... ondanks smeekbedes van velen .

Inderdaad, vele die-hard fans zochten deze opname tevergeefs, eveneens JK van de stonerrock blog (StonerHive).

Nu uit het niets diezelfde bewuste tijdloze registratie online in schatkamer:

Madrugada - Live in de Melkweg (2001)

De exacte datum van het concert blijft (voorlopig) nog een raadsel.
Op setlist.fm staan identieke setlist op zowel 08 november 2001 als 11 augustus 2001, de schatkamer houdt het op november (wat mij correct lijkt).

PS: dit concert was met wijlen Robert Burås, songwriter & guitarist, overleden in 2007
